There are so many things to do in London, especially related to the art and music scenes. You will love this gray city if you love underground culture. Definitely, it is part of this group of cities you feel you can visit again and again.
Apart from touristic landmarks like the HOUSE OF PARLIAMENT, BIG BEN, THE LONDON EYE, BUCKINGHAM PALACE and so on, here are some other places to enjoy:
SHOREDITCH
Once famous for being the area for Jack the Ripper's murders, Shoreditch is considered the coolest neighborhood in London. Known also for its street art, you will find great vintage shops, fashion and design stores, art galleries, hipster cafés, bars, and restaurants. I stayed there last time I visited London, and I definitely recommend it. Located in East London, it is also near almost everything.
TATE MODERN
Founded by Henry Tate in 1987 to showcase his 19th-century art collection. TATE is divided into TATE BRITAIN and TATE MODERN. Tate Britain is more focused on British art from the 1500s to 1900s. While Tate Modern has a collection of modern and contemporary art by leading artists from around the world, such as DAVID HOCKNEY, TRACEY EMIN, DAMIEN HIRST, DUCHAMP, PICASSO and many others.
If you are into contemporary art, Tate Modern is absolutely a place to visit. Its famous building, once a former power station, became the new Tate Gallery in 1992.
SERPENTINE GALLERY
It is worth visiting the Serpentine Gallery not only for its contemporary art exhibitions and SERPENTINE ARCHITECTURE PAVILION that happens during Summer. The two galleries are also located in the ROYAL PARK OF KENSINGTON GARDENS, once part of HYDE PARK. So you can enjoy some art and also take a pleasant stroll through the park. SERPENTINE NORTH GALLERY and SERPENTINE SOUTH GALLERY are a five-minute walk from each other, near the SERPENTINE BRIDGE.
NIGHTLIFE AND OLD PUBS
London’s nightlife is famous for being very alternative, and there are plenty of options for pubs and parties. I believe places here change very fast, as it normally happens in big cities, so it is good to do some research and check out what is going on. I also like visiting places connected to British artists, for instance, the pub Amy Winehouse used to go to or the place she used to sing. The club where the Arctic Monkeys or the Libertines used to play, and so on, so I have an experience related to the artists I like.
NOTTING HILL
Located in West London, Notting Hill is a cosmopolitan, adorable neighborhood famous for its architecture, pastel-colored houses, ANNUAL CARNIVAL and the PORTOBELLO MARKET.
Portobello Road Market is a great antique and secondhand street market. Although it is normally very busy, it is completely worth it. I bought my vintage wedding dress there :) You will find cool pieces, a nice atmosphere, and good street food.
BOROUGH MARKET
London is not my favorite in terms of food, but at Borough Market you will find a good variety of food from different countries and a lot of cheese too! Established in 1756, it is located under a railroad line near the London Bridge.
