Cannes is the fanciest city on the French Riviera: luxury hotels, restaurants, high-end luxury fashion houses, rich people, and a lot of glamour. Cannes' fame increased after the creation of the CANNES FILM FESTIVAL in the 1950s, when all movie stars started to visit the city for the festival. As a cinema fan, I loved being there. I still prefer the simpler parts of the French Riviera and the charm of its villages, but it is worth a day trip there.
PROMENADE DE LA CROISETTE
It is the main avenue of Cannes, full of palm trees, fancy restaurants, and luxury stores. It's very pleasant to stroll along the beach and watch the local movement.
To have a good view of the promenade, you can go to LE SUQUET, the old town of Cannes. This area has local restaurants, charming old houses, and street markets.

CANNES FILM FESTIVAL
Founded in 1946, Cannes was an idea to compete with the Venice Film Festival.
I love reading about the film selections and the prizes. Fun stories that happened during the festivals, the artists, the hype, the French summer, the parties, Hitchcock releasing birds for his premiere of The Birds, the affairs. Many iconic moments.
